Sanja Pupovac confidently stands outside of the Atelier: Spazio Libero - the title proposed to the residents for their experience - connects and overflows, occupies and blends, and takes us a little further, on the balcony in front of Casa degli Artisti. Like one of the main characters in Desperate Housewives, the Serbian artist is staring at us: bored, defiant, her icy attitude is betrayed by her dishevelled pose and hairstyle. Her cultural DNA is a blend of contrasting aromas: during the Yugoslavian crisis she lived in Kuwait, where she attended an Indian school, then she travelled through Poland and Bahrain, and finally moved to Italy. Through ironic détournements, Sanja experiments, manipulates and deforms the clichés of contemporary hyper-positivity culture, creating an experiential mixture of dream and reality, toying with cerebral lucubrations and tangible experiences. Who knows, maybe after the photoshoot she hosted an ASMR radio show. Or maybe she was on a stand-up comedy stage. Come una protagonista di Desperate Housewives, l’artista serba ci guarda annoiata e sfidante, ma il suo atteggiamento freezy è tradito dalla posa e dall’acconciatura scomposte. Un distillato nato dall’unione dei più contrastanti aromi è alla base del DNA culturale dell’artista: durante la crisi jugoslava vive in Kuwait, dove frequenta una scuola indiana, transita per Polonia e Bahrain, per poi trasferirsi in Italia. Attraverso ironici détournements, Sanja sperimenta, manipola e deforma i cliché contemporanei della cultura dell’iper positività, dando vita a un connubio esperienziale tra sogno e realtà, giocando con elucubrazioni cerebrali ed esperienze tangibili.
