Transforming the sounds of a data backup tape into wind resonances with the Tape & Microsound Music Machine! . The ability to store and retreive data from audio tape meant cassette decks everywhere could be used to back up and load sounds and sequences from a variety of electronic instruments in the 1970s and 80s. The sounds in this video came from one such tape, for a Sequential Circuits Drumtraks-400! . These sounds were recorded into the Morphagene, time stretched with a clock from Maths, and then patched into QPAS where they were transformed into four highly resonant peaks. Finally, this was patched into the Mimeophon which added a reverberant echo to the sound while smoothing out some of the rough edges. . What are some of your favorite sounds of old technology?
