These vessels by Ron Nagle are part of a curated selection of artworks at the new LOEWE Hooftstraat store in Amsterdam presented alongside our latest collections. Known for his hand carved, abstract ceramics, American artist Ron Nagle creates works that are at once intimate in scale yet exuberant in color. Showcasing the artist’s hand in the work, his glazed, lustrous pieces recall the Japanese philosophy of wabi sabi–the appreciation for imperfections and transience found in craft– which is a theme that runs through much of the artworks exhibited at LOEWE stores. Nagle was born in in 1939 in San Francisco where he currently lives and works. His ceramics have been exhibited at institutions including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the 55th Venice Biennale and shown alongside other legendary West-coast sculptors important to LOEWE, including his teacher Peter Voulkos, whose work is curated at LOEWE Rodeo Drive, as well as Ken Price, who was the subject of a LOEWE project in 2020.
