I shared a version of this message in my newsletter this week and wanted to share it with you too (p.s. you can get the recipe for the #glutenfree cranberry scones at the link in my profile, where you can also sign up for my newsletter, which is where I’ll be sharing all of my recipes moving forward ❤️):
Dear friends,
I love Thanksgiving. It's one of my favorite holidays. And there's also a lot of pressure that comes with it. Whether you're traveling, visiting family, managing a bigger meal than you're used to, or spending the holiday alone, it can be easy during this time to lose ourselves - to get swept up in family drama; or get overwhelmed with to-do lists; or to judge ourselves based on photos that we see on social media. We live in a society that builds a huge capitalistic web around this holiday, and if we're not careful we can get caught in it.
Let's take a few deep breaths, root ourselves in our bodies, and ditch any expectations or notions of perfectionism. Let's acknowledge the challenges that this holiday presents and give ourselves grace. Let's give thanks for the teeny tiny moments that fill our hearts. Even in the midst of sadness, loss and grief we can hold gratitude for what we have. There's immense beauty in that.
This is the first Thanksgiving in years that I won't be cooking the full meal, but rather assisting. I'm grateful for that. I'm grateful for the chance to be writing to all of you. I'm grateful you've stuck around during my evolutions, and I'm grateful for the changes that are to come. I'm changing. You're changing. Maybe we won't always be aligned, but that's okay. I'll always be grateful for you.
There are changes afoot over here. I'm not yet sure what form From Scratch Fast will take, but do I know that my biggest passion is communicating with this community and sharing my recipes with you. That will absolutely continue.
In the meantime, I'll be here to answer all your cooking questions as we dive into the holiday season. I'd like to remind you to breathe. To take moments just for yourself. And to ask for help when you need it.
With gratitude,
Nicki
