Magic in Marrekesh
In the 1920s, French artist Jaques Majorelle created a house in Marrakesh that celebrated Moroccan craft. It included a beautiful, lush Islamic garden. Fifty years later, the oasis was under threat from developers. Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé stepped in to save the estate.
Seasonal pots of nasturtiums, dwarf palms, large strelitzias, and a mosaic fountain populate the garden. The second image features an octagonal dining pavilion designed by Madison Cox for Pierre Bergé. Lawrence Mynott designed the chairs’ needlepoint, representing the flora and key monuments of Marrakesh.
