bringing back this video of olive from when she was transitioning from 2 → 1 nap since emm is currently going through the same thing 🥲 here’s exactly how i knew my 13-month old was ready to drop a nap + what we’re doing: the biggest sign was that he started waking up later and later (around 8am). that pushed his first nap really late, and to make a 2-nap schedule still work, i was constantly capping both naps just to protect bedtime. basically: • cap nap 1 so nap 2 could happen • cap nap 2 so bedtime wasn’t crazy late • repeat daily 🫠 (once it starts feeling that forced, that’s usually a sign they’re ready to drop a nap.) how we transitioned: I just went cold turkey. i literally woke up one day and said “today is the day” and stretched his wake windows to almost 5 hours. no micro-nap, no bridge nap... just committed. & yes, I used a little screen time to help him make it to that longer wake window. how it’s going: he’s handling it well, but his one nap is still on the shorter side (about 1.5 hours). ideally we want that nap to lengthen to ~2–2.5 hours, but this is very normal during the transition so I’m not worried. to make up for it, i’ve just been pulling bedtime earlier by about an hour. short nap = earlier bedtime, and that’s been working well for us. our ideal 1-nap day: 7:30am – wake + milk 8:30am – breakfast 10:00am – snack 12:00pm – lunch 12:30pm – nap 2:30–3:00pm – ideal wake 3:30pm – snack 5:00pm – dinner 7:30pm – milk 8:00pm – bedtime (right now, with the shorter nap, bedtime is closer to 7pm) a few things to remember: • early bedtimes during transitions are normal • short naps at first are normal • you don’t need a “perfect” schedule, just consistency • every baby is different (& this is just what worked for me for both of my kids) I personally love when my babies are on one nap because I feel like it opens up my day so much more. hope this helps if you’re in the same phase!!🤍 #naptransition #toddlernap #babysleep #momlife #parentingtips
