I kindly invite you to my presentation here at @nieuw_en_meer where I will show and read from the "Sweet River Motherland" Project Saturday 17th of December 17:00 -20:00, with a reading performance at 18:00 Sunday 18th of December 14:00 – 17:00 Nieuw en Meer, The pavilion in the garden (I've put a map in the second slide) Oude Haagseweg 51 During my residency here I have been working on my project “Sweet River Motherland”. During the exhibition I will present a series of drawings, ceramic sculptures and a poetry reading Saturday evening. I have previously described my project as a performance of a river that passes through the spine – a carrier and bodily archive of desire, un/forgetting language, and non/belonging. The project is an ongoing research project on emotional accumulation within sugar, sweet, and honeyed objects that passes through, along, and with the post-soviet body. Somewhere in this movement of passing I have forgotten my mother tongue, and in another movement of passing my family has forgotten their name. Geographically speaking the river leads to my village and if you keep walking then to my hometown. The water pulls one in the direction of desires and rejections. And when the river runs through the spine it speaks through the fragmentation of narratives, failure of language, and bodily memories of lost words. I hope to see you there.
