Flashing it back to 1991. In high school, small beach town, trying to figure life out, introverted, shy and totally awkward. I loved writing, art class, reading Anais Nin, watching 120 Minutes on MTV, local punk rock shows, riding in my brothers Plymouth Duster “Old Yeller”, being a “betty” at the beach and skate park; dying my hair and wearing trainers with slip dresses. This was not the southern charm expected of me so my mom put in a “finishing school”. I did some test shoots, and this is the result of one of them that I styled, did my own hair/makeup. I realized in that moment that as much as I felt uncomfortable being in front of the camera, I loved the collaboration in creativity, and still do, 30 years later. I’ve come out of my shell so to speak, or rather learned to play the part, but deep down I’m always going to be (and honor) the awkward girl 🤍
