This sculpture by Iranian-German artist Nairy Baghramian is part of a curated selection of artworks at the LOEWE Rodeo Drive presented alongside our latest collections.
“Mooring” (2016), named for the object used to secure boats, imitates the hook-shaped crane operators use to navigate cargo; yet upclose, we find it is rendered with the fragility of the artist’s hand. Known for what the artist describes as “ambivalent abstraction,” Baghramian's works respond to themes such as identity politics, while her aesthetics take visual cues from the human body and architecture. Her work fuses the very sets of dualities that are found across LOEWE’s unique curatorial platform; namely, the decorative and functional, industrial and handmade, commodity and artwork.
Baghramian was recently announced as the 2022 Nasher Prize Laureate and her work is exhibited in public and private collections worldwide.
