Burning down the highway at 8 am all caff’d up debating who had the bigger influence between the Velvet Underground versus the Grateful Dead with Katie. Obviously both have an extremely far reach all the way into modern music whether people realize it or not. For example - VU influenced Sonic Youth and The Pixies without which there wouldn’t have been Nirvana without which where would we be today? Who’s to even say. But when it comes down to it, I hate to admit, as I’m a much bigger VU fan than of the GD, a lot of the Velvets dark persona was impart a direct reaction to the flower power energy cultivated by The Dead SO one, me perhaps, could argue that without the Grateful Dead there wouldn’t be the Velvet Underground as we know and love them. Meanwhile, I don’t think the Velvets influenced the Dead in any direct way. Considering all of this burning down the highway, all the while this booger was hanging out of my nose.
