Been 5 years since I said goodbye to dad. This is one of my absolute favorite pics of him; just propping up his feet in the Governor’s office 😂 I was embarrassed at the time but I love it now and had to replicate it. I always found it fitting he passed away on Texas Independence Day. He’s the one who instilled my pride for the lone star state, taught me what a Texian was, and fueled my passions for the outdoors and philanthropy. I miss you dad. Just a couple days ago out of the blue Emery said she talked to you and you said everything was gonna be okay. I stopped walking, teared up, and later that night had my breakdown moment missing you. Such a random thing for her to say. Maybe she’s just a kid and made it up; maybe the afterlife does let you visit. I don’t know. But it sure did make me feel good picturing you with her. I promise I’m gonna write that song about putting the “i” back in Texan. I’m in the studio next week. Challenge accepted. Happy Texas Independence Day
