September is suicide prevention month, and as one of the few who made it out the other side, here is a list of notes for community members who want to help struggling loved ones. List is long and continues in comments ❤️ Suicide prevention looks like. . . -Going over to your friends house when they’re depressed, and helping them clean their room -Lending the homie that $60 they need before their next paycheck -A family friend saying, “Hey, don’t talk to your daughter that way.” -Co-signing an apartment for your family member or colleague that needs a safe space to live -Taking your community member to dance class -Taking your sibling to a doctor appointment -A neighbor saying, “Mami, I saw you walking around the neighborhood lately and you look sad, you wanna come smoke one with me?” -Your favorite uncle sending you $100 on a cashapp with a note that says “I love you.” -The sweet abuelo that works at your corner store that says, “God bless you míja”, as you walk out the door. -It looks like local governments reallocating funds for mental health care programs for people. -A doctor believing what patients say and taking time to offer them resources and guidance while they are in the office, not 1-2 months later on a list, on a cold piece of paper. -Checking in on your elders -Sending funny memes to your cousin that the family has outcasted -Inviting your lonely parent to a day time friend function -Telling your nurse how much she means to you and how grateful you are that she took time to meet your needs -Giving a compliment to a stranger -Offering a protective presence when you see a stranger feels unsafe -Swiping your metro card for someone in need -Carrying grocery bags for an elder -Bringing school supplies and homemade dinner to your child’s teacher -Active, engaged, compassionate, mindful listening -Sending flowers -Helping your partner with anxiety sit down and make a list of the things they need to get done that week -Babysitting your friend’s kids so they can have rest days -Going with your friend or family member to their first addiction meeting -Cooking for your neighbor -Hiring your friends (Cont. in comments) #rp @stylelikeu #tbt
