A huge 150x100cm framed print of one of my best selling prints 'Stranded'. Here’s the background story to this photo. I had been photographing this rock pool in Jervis Bay on a few consecutive mornings, wanting to capture an image of this rock pool paired with vivid clouds in the sky on sunrise. On the first few mornings I didn't have much luck, arriving at the location, only to be greeted with grey cloudy skies. On about the 4th morning, I arose early, looked outside my window and saw that the dark skies had cleared and there was a faint glow on the horizon. It was looking like it was going to be a beautiful sunrise! Grabbing my camera gear, I hastily headed to the beach in anticipation. When I arrived at the location it was fairly dark and there was still a while till the sun rose. I setup my camera on the tripod, composed the shot, sat back and waited for the sun to rise. After taking a few photos of different compositions, the sun had fully risen by now. I was pretty happy with the photos I had taken and was ready to pack up my camera gear and head home. It wasn’t until then, that I noticed there was a Port Jackson Shark laying under a ledge in the rock pool. I couldn’t believe my eyes! On the high tide, there is about 1.5m of water on top of this rock shelf, which makes me believe that the shark had been sitting in the rock pool on the high tide and as the tide has gone out, it has unknowingly gotten itself stranded. After taking a few photos, the shark began swimming around in circles near the surface as if it were looking for a way out of the rock pool. Knowing that I couldn’t just leave the shark in the rock pool as there was still many hours till the tide came back in. The only option was to hop in the rock pool and try to get the shark back into the ocean. Working quickly to not stress the shark, I was able to get it out of the rockpool and carefully place it back into the ocean. With a flick of its tail, it happily swum off into the bay. This was one of those lucky moments, which I just happened to be in the right place at right time and thankfully I was able to get the shark back into the ocean and in return I was rewarded with this photo.
