✨Despite the dark and stormy Friday night, it played well into celebrating the release of THE GATHERING DARK anthology with .TORI BOVALINO (@toribovalino) and and ALEX BROWN (@madethisforlu) , with GINA CHEN (@actualgina), for an in store and virtual event! It started with Tori and Alex sharing their inspirations for writing their respective short stories, followed by them exploring some of the spooky moments that they loved creating, and how some of those moments came from rumors surrounding the areas they grew up in. Tori in particular said that when writing creepy/scary moments, she makes sure she puts herself in a fear inducing environment (i.e., completely dark room, late at night, etc.). She also makes sure the moments she is crafting are ones that she wouldn't want to happen to her. Alex likes creating moments where there are no concrete answers, and ones that leave the reader unsure of what happened to a character. Not only is Tori a contributing author to THE GATHERING DARK, but also the editor. When she approached the other contributors about the anthology, she said she almost felt like she was commissioning them. As for advice to other writers wanting to write scary stories, she said giving advice always makes her wary, and that she always worries about potentially giving bad advice. Tori and Alex then both gave input on getting started on writing and what tricks they have learned from working with beta readers following feedback.
