I don't often post about my physical ailments. I'm fortunate to be a pretty healthy individual thanks to an active lifestyle and my borderline obsession with supplements. That being said, for the past half decade I've been suffering from a herniated disc in my neck. It would flare up now and again but I was able to mitigate most of the pain with yoga and natural supplements.
All of that changed a month and a half ago.
The disc became so irritated that nothing I did could fix it. I was in significanct pain at all hours and I couldn't sleep at night since any pressure on my neck would result in searing pain. My left thumb and part of my hand went completely numb and my left forearm felt like it was throbbing with arthritis constantly. After 2 days of this I went to the clinic for an emergency visit where I was put on a round of steroids and muscle relaxers which thankfully took the inflammation down drastically and allowed me to have relatively normal days and sleep.
I've been off any workout routine for over a month now. It's the longest I've gone since I was 17. It's been driving me insane.
Thankfully now I'm able to hike and do light workouts after several rounds of dry needling and physical therapy but man do I feel weak. My entire left side has atrophied from the nerves being shut down. But I'm not going to give up. I'm hoping to go to Mexico soon for stem cell therapy but until then I'm just going to keep working at it.
Accept, adapt and overcome.
