📰SUCCESSFUL HAIR LOSS TREATMENT? Hair loss one of most frustrating DERM patient concerns. 🚫Many supplements marketed with extensive promises of hair growth, unfortunately lack of quality evidence & not well-regulated space. !!️Of critical importance in treating any hair loss is workup identifying underlying conditions (i.e. medications, immune conditions, relevant medical history like pregnancy or recent illnesses, anemia, nutritional and mineral deficiencies, and wide range of other causes.) Even when done, some do not find success regrowing hair. 🧴Used topically, Minoxidil (Rogaine) has been mainstay of treatment for many years (and is only FDA approved topical medication for hair loss) but not all deal well with texture, stickiness and need for indefinite use. 💊 Dermatologists have found success treating hair loss patients (with wide array of underlying causes but not all) with low dose oral Minoxidil by prescription. Side effects may include excess hair growth, low BP, ankle swelling, among others. 👩🏻‍⚕️May be excellent adjunct to treatments for certain candidates (even for some that have not previously been successful.)
