It was 2002 when this humble, joyful man with a vibrant smile walked into my classroom at Chapman University. I'll never forget teaching him the basics of Jazz & Ballet technique. He would stay after class with me and practice pirouettes... he'd say, "you teach me how to turn, and I'll teach you some breakin moves." He was so committed. I choreographed a huge piece that Stephen performed in for the University Faculty show - his parents flew out special just to watch. Every rehearsal he always performed 100% full out. We worked together outside of the college as well, performing around town, having one on one conversations about life. He was always such a gentleman, with a heart of gold...continuously wanting to learn. Stephen was a special guy, destined for fame. The odd thing was not too long ago, I had a missed call from him. We hadn't spoken in a long time, so I was surprised to see a missed call from him. I tried calling back, but we never did reconnect. I'll always wonder what that call was regarding. 😪 My heart breaks. A tragic loss. RIP Stephen. So extremely sad. (Ironically, this picture posted was taken on 12-14-02.
