I had a Korean summer. My husband @mikesmith.studio spent a couple of weeks in Korea gold leafing a @paulmorrisonstudio flowerscape onto a building outside Seoul. For @NOWgalleryse10 summer show, ending this Sunday I had the good fortune of working with @jee_young_lee and her technician Shim who came over from Korea to install ‘Maiden Voyage’. We suspend 400 ginkgo leaves and upsized origami, and more than 8000 people have made swans with their memories enscribed. It was a joy to talk with JeeYoung about Korea and take her to the largest Ginkgo tree at @kewgardens which is called a Maidenhair tree coincidentally appropriate. I read Pachinko over the summer, a gripping tale of Korea over 100 years through the eyes of some troubled and thoughtful characters. It gave me a real insight into the struggle Koreans have had to deal with being residents in Japan, a country that won’t accept them as equals. An important book thank you Min Jin Lee.
