Canada’s wilds have been some of my most formative teachers in photography. Over the years I’ve learned to listen to the rugged terrain, follow hidden animals paths through the forest, and trust my intuition. But above all, I’ve come to know the incredible rewards of patience. It can take hours of sitting by the cold rush of a stream or weeks of hiding in a blind on the beach, but sooner or later even the most secretive inhabitants of this rich wilderness will reveal themselves to me — the lone wolf stepping out from its hiding place in the rocks, a pod of orcas suddenly surfacing in clear view of my lens, and the lumbering bear on its quest for salmon. Each of these photographs is the result of solitude and surrender to the natural world.
