Welcome to condor week! In one week on September 24th,2022,there will be a public release of captive-bred California condors in Northern Arizona! You will have the opportunity to watch several condors fly free in the wild for the first time in their life!
Condors are bred in captivity in 1 of 4 locations including the Los Angeles Zoo, the San Diego Zoo, the Oregon Zoo, and The Peregrine Fund’s own World Center for Birds of Prey in Boise, Idaho. When the birds are about 1.5 years old, they get assigned a location to be released into the free-flying population. This year, 5lucky birds got assigned to the Utah/Arizona population! This event can be enjoyed in person or through the live stream on The Peregrine Fund’s YouTube channel at 12:30 p.m. Mountain Time.
