After 18 months working alongside this absolute weapon and Assyrian icon - we have finally launched the new global estimates measuring modern slavery throughout the world.
This unique dataset is a standalone collaboration between an international human rights group & the United Nations. It will now inform all domestic and international responses relating to modern slavery.
This estimate is so much more than undertanding the global story of exploitation: it represents interviews with tens of thousands of people about their lives and lived experiences, representing 97% of the global population.
It stands as an urgent reminder that a global, survivor-centred, approach to tackling modern slavery, is as essential as ever.
With 80% of all forced labour occurring in global supply chains, with clear linkages to historical slavery, colonisation and persisting structural inequality, it has never been truer that we are all connected through systems that serve some at the huge expense of others.
Thank you to everyone who has worked on this monumental piece of research, which will now be the foundation for holding the world’s most powerful nations to account.
