We are excited to announce that Michael Heizer's extraordinary sculpture "City" will open to the public on September 2! ☀️ Work on this monumental piece began almost exactly a half-century ago and has grown to become more than a mile-and-a-half long and almost a half-mile wide. With its extraordinary size and ambition, "City" has long been a legend, even as a work in progress. Many Angelenos will remember the installation of Heizer's "Levitated Mass" at LACMA ten years ago, and followed the sculpture's journey to its current site on the north side of our campus. "Levitated Mass" has since become a beloved icon for neighbors and LACMA visitors alike, and we are so proud to continue our support of Heizer's work. LACMA joins @crystalbridgesmuseum, @glenstonemuseum, and @themuseumofmodernart in a national coalition of organizations that will preserve and maintain this incredible artwork for future generations.
