The Honorable Hakeem Jeffries (@repjeffries) of New York just gave the best opening speech I’ve ever heard for a session of Congress in my lifetime. Possibly the best in history from a minority leader of a party. He gave poetic delivery of what is possible in America. I pray for his success. As a younger Black man in America, I recognize the importance of both symbolism & substance. It is my hope that my generation in our discovery of our place in history recognize we can demand substance & celebrate the symbolism. As long as America has existed a Black man has never had the high honor of giving this speech. May it not be the last time. For in these symbolic moments, a new generation of Black leaders see what is possible for them. May he deliver on these words & be guided by justice.
