LONG, SHAMELESS PRIDE POST! First, Happy Pride! It's Pride month, and as the Co-Chair of @nycpride , we're back to full in-person, live events. This is hard! We haven't done this in a while! It's stressful! But our team is motivated and dedicated and we've been working for longer than you can imagine to bring this all together (since last July). New venues and artists and ideas all bring us to this month- and we can't do it without your support, allies included. Buy tickets to our events! Donate money! Buy our merch like the stuff in my shameless pics (made you look right? On our website)! I will show off to raise money (or bake you cookies)! Support our partners! Support ACTUAL Pride organizations, we're not a city or government agency, we don't get the support other organizations across the world do. The corporations that give us support are certainly not perfect, but we work with their LGBT employees to make things better, and they step in where many others haven't. Pay attention to that (our fancy new logo on something means something). There's 300 anti-LGBT bills in state legislatures, and more than 1/2 of them are focused on trans kids! Kids! And that's why many of us do this work- for them and new generations, because our community....isn't the best to each other, by a wide margin. If I think about the way myself and friends have been treated for years (heck even last weekend on Fire Island)...that's not the community I'm working for, and I'd walk right away. But I love my NYC Pride family, because we fight and bicker and create and laugh and surprise each other EVERY day and do it again every year not asking for thanks, but because we know if we make one person's life better, it's worth it all. Thanks for coming to my Pride Ted talk, thanks to my love for putting up with this! If I don't respond to calls or texts, I'll get to it in July, thank you for your grace.
