Growing up I didn’t think much of Philippines’ Independence day, to me it was just another holiday that could get me off of school. As I got older and started to learn more about my country’s history I realized that independence day back home was a huge deal. After being colonized for over 300+ years, in 1946 the Philippines became an independent nation. 🇵🇭 Now more than ever I feel the importance of celebrating the holiday because through history since gaining independence, Filipinos have been put through the ringer facing countless ups and downs. I consider June 12 as day to remind myself that after hundreds of years we were fortunate enough to earn our freedom and with that being said it’s important that as Filipinos we don’t waste that freedom and constantly strive to do more for our country. ✊🏽 This golden dress is probably one of my favorite performance outfits.
