I love wind and today we passed my offshore wind bill in a large climate package. My bill allows for the first time cities, towns, and private companies to get their energy directly from offshore wind. It also codifies our environmental protections to ensure we are building offshore wind responsibly. Our legislation was included in a larger clean energy package that heads to the governor's desk. Here's a breakdown of the bill: (1) The bill solidifies MA's national leadership on offshore wind: ✅Invests in research & development ✅Expands economic investments ✅Requires wind projects to have environmental & fisheries mitigation plans ✅Requires wind projects to benefit EJ communities (2) And expands other clean energy goals: ☀️Improves solar net metering & agro-solar ❌Removes biomass from our RPS 🔋Prepares our grid for an influx of clean energy (3) Further language will decarbonize our transportation & building sectors: 🚗 Mandates all vehicles sold in MA are ZEVs by 2035 🚗 Builds out EV charging infrastructure & incentives 🏘️ Ends Mass Save fossil fuel incentives 🏘️ Creates a pilot for 100% renewable new construction
