One year of being with Dalton. He’s made my heart expand. For someone who truly believed that being in a relationship might not be in the cards for me, the past year has been one of the most eye opening times. I found comfort in the safety of hyper independence because I wanted the world to know I was okay alone. But the thing is, you’re never alone are you? I have love around me in so many ways. It’s in the ways my dad FaceTimes me multiple times a day, my loyal friendships, the trips that I take with my girlfriends and the way I am proud of what I put into the world. I leaned into all that love and as a result, I was led to Dalton (quite literally). So let me be one of many to tell you that it really does happen when you least expect it. Take it from the girl who heard that a million times and respectfully rolled my eyes each time. Dalton, you encapsulate the good in this world. You are kind, giving, an incredible listener, supportive and you are one of greatest friendship I know in my life. You taught the girl that loves love, how to be loved in vivid color and I’m indebted to you because of that. Our relationship has been somewhat unconventional and I love us for that. You are one of the most patient humans I know. I know I’ve got quite a lot of ✨spice✨ and somehow, you’re always there with the right thing to say and/or to sit with me in silence and feel it all. The empathy you hold never ceases to amaze me. I’m a firm believe that relationships are work and they should be. You should work everyday to be the best version of yourself not only for you, but those you love. You should work to communicate clearly because clear communication is kind. You should work to be a good friend, because friendship is the backbone to love. You should work to listen, to build together and to be each other’s safety when the other person gets lost. Relationships are work, but it pays the ultimate gift that has no monetary value. 365 days of being a relationship with you showed me immense abundance.
