Member Spotlight: Jason and Mary Bigham of Penny + Clover in Rochester, Michigan! For as long as she can remember, Mary Bigham wanted to create and make things beautiful, but her journey to starting Penny + Clover, the industry’s first floral vending company, wasn’t a clear path. As Mary and her husband, Jason, were preparing to open a brick-and-mortar plant and flower shop in Rochester, Jason stumbled across BloomHouse, a new automated self-service sales platform for the global flower and plant industry. With this inspiration, they decided to scrap the brick-and-mortar approach and, instead, build their business around vending machines and online sales. Penny + Clover is planning to launch by September with five vending machines across Metro Detroit. They will be the only on-demand flower company that can deliver flowers around the area within 2-hours, 7 days a week. Bringing this concept to life and creating an experience that no one has done before has been Jason and Mary’s favorite part of working in the floral industry so far. After success in September, they hope to launch 15 more vending machines by the end of 2023! Their favorite: -Thing about being an SAF member: The opportunity to stay in touch with the industry and build relationships with other members to grow and modernize for the next generation of flower companies. -Flower: Mary’s favorite flowers are peonies. Growing up, she can remember her grandmother’s peonies growing in the yard and fell in love with them at a young age. -Way to unwind: Spending time as a family, with their two boys, Henry and Jack, in Port Austin where Mary’s parents live.
