You’re going to want to watch, save, and share this one! Connection to our children is incredibly important, however there is no one equation to obtain secure attachment. Secure attachment is NOT equivalent to ONLY breastfeeding, co-sleeping, and enjoying baby wearing. For many, these things bring them joy and contentment in parenthood and that joy radiates into secure attachment. But, remember that parents doing the OPPOSITE are still raising securely attached children. ✔️Formula feeding does not impact secure attachment. ✔️Not enjoying baby-wearing does not impact secure attachment. ✔️Sleep-training does not impact secure attachment. What is vital is: ✔️loving physical and emotional connection with your child when you are reunited. ✔️Building in undistracted time with your child on a routine that works for your family. ✔️Bonding in your own way via loving connection such music, laughter, cuddles, playtime, etc. It’s important to remember that secure attachment is attainable in many ways, but it also has to be sustainable. Watching mothers become resentful, sleep-deprived, or sacrifice their mental health due to the misconception that secure attachment means constant physical attachment with their child has greatly robbed many mothers of joy in motherhood. As a reminder, sleep-training may not be your vibe and that is okay. It’s not a requirement. But the concepts of sleep-learning and sleep-training have helped so many families get better sleep and has actually increased familial connection during wake times due to better sleep and the ability to be more mentally present, which is vital for secure attachment. If you choose to sleep-train, remember your child WILL STILL have secure attachment.
