All the February feels... including a quote from my favorite book, The Untethered Soul: “You are not your thoughts, you are aware of your thoughts. You are not your emotions, you feel your emotions. You are not your body, you look at it in the mirror and experience this world through its eyes and ears. You are the conscious being who is aware that you are aware of all these inner and outer things.” The reality is most of us are not really trying to be free of our stuff... we are trying to justify keeping it, constantly trying to stay within our comfort zones. And our minds are usually telling us that we have to change something on the outside in order to solve our inner problems. However, instead of asking what should I do about a problem (already fallen into believing there is a problem), ask what part of me is disturbed by this problem? And sit with that. As long as you are sitting in the seat of centered awareness watching your stuff get hit, you’re not getting lost in it. We don’t get to control the waves in the ocean, but we can control how we ride and not get taken under by them 🌊
