I’ve never thought to experiment with piano sounds outside of how I strike the keys and press the pedals, but this new song I’m writing calls for something different. Not quite pizzicato (I considered using a harpsichord to get that plucked sound!), not quite staccato, a little gritty, and wow I am super excited about this sound! Keep listening to hear how it sounds when adding the sustain pedal! This repeating phrase (ostinato!) is part of the song “I Could” for piano, strings, and voice and will premiere at my graduating composition recital on May 14th 11am in Pickman Hall.
