*UPDATED 9.29.22 @ 6:35PM EST* For anyone wondering about the beautiful Sanibel Lighthouse, it still stands tall. As for the out buildings around it, unfortunately are all gone. The Sanibel Pier will most likely have to be torn down, unless proven sturdy enough to stay. We can tell you this, much of Sanibel is confirmed to have been wiped out, potentially some of the island structure itself. Many historical landmarks are gone, Sanibel and Captiva are unfortunately in ruins. It will take months, maybe years to fully restore. We’re just as sad as everyone else. As of this morning, Gov. Ron DeSantis said two people were confirmed dead as a result of the Hurricane. This is one of the saddest posts we have had to make and we are very upset about everything that has happened. Please keep the state of Florida in your prayers. Many memories were and are being made on Sanibel. Even if the rumors are true, Sanibel is either home or a second home to many of us and we won’t let Ian ruin that for us.
