AW22 “I am not myself” commissioned by @the_tetley museum Leeds UK showing from the 7th of May 2022 to the 29th of August 2022 The embodiment of spirits within this family of masquerades relate to the fertility of crops, the end of scourge, the warding of destructive spirits and to restore the social order established by supernatural beings in times of immemorial, each masquerade is intended to represent a certain spirit. The colours for this family of masquerades represent the rites of passage or transition at critical times of life. This includes the entires mythic tradition dealing with the origin and structure of the universe, the creation of man, animals and plants and the death of everything to be reborn. The road from demoniacal curios to highly valued works of art is studded with misunderstandings. With this body of work we aim to use aesthetical systems to change the incomprehensible eyes of the west to be seen as carefully considered distillation of forms.
