Our old friend Peter Ellenby tragically passed away this week. In December of 1998, he took this photograph of the original DCFC lineup outside The Bottom of The Hill in San Francisco. While I have photos of every iteration of our band hanging in my house, this one continues to be incredibly important to me. Every time I pass by it I’m reminded that while DCFC went on to experience things we never could’ve imagined in our wildest dreams, the only reason we started this band was to have fun. We didn’t have any grand aspirations aside from making music, playing shows, and earning enough gas money to get our rickety, Ford Econoline van to the next town. In Peter’s photo I see all the floors we slept on and every mustard sandwich we ate back then (seriously; mustard sandwiches). And most importantly I see three of the best friends I’ve ever made.
Thank you Peter for capturing this moment that I keep coming back to again and again. Rest In Peace.
