June is pride month! 🌈🦄The time where we celebrate with big parades, Drag Race Highlights, rainbow flags on every street corner and crazy amounts of glitter. ✨ This month is also a time for reflection and solidarity; a time where we remember those who fought oppression and paved the path for equality. It’s important to look back at the progress we have made in recent years in reference to LGBTQ+ rights, and discuss how we can continue to tackle homophobia and transphobia. Did you know there are 69 countries in the world where homosexuality is criminalised? We specifically celebrate pride in June because of the The Stonewall Riots that began on the 28th day of the month. The riots were important protests that took place in 1969 in New York City, that changed gay rights for a lot of people in America and around the world. Pride is a celebration of people coming together in love and friendship, to show how far LGBTQ+ rights have come, and how in some places, there's still work to be done. Now more than ever, it’s important to come together & standup for what you believe in, and give support to those who’s voices are repressed.
