We are saddened to share that longtime Western Costume employee and industry legend Tzetzi Ganev passed away last week. She was 88 years old. Tzetzi was trained in her home country of Italy where she attended the renowned Marangoni School of Design in Milan. She came to the US in 1966 and joined Western shortly thereafter, where she spent four decades as the Head of Ladies’ Custom Made. During her tenure at Western she worked on countless projects and was a favorite collaborator of many designers. Tzetzi’s incredible artistry was featured in too many films to name, but include HELLO, DOLLY! (1969), NINE TO FIVE (1980), CLUE (1985), OVERBOARD (1987), and FRIDA (2002). She also made costumes for Dolly Parton’s stage shows, and personal gowns for Julie Andrews, Anjelica Huston, and Jane Fonda, among others. In recognition of her work the Costume Designers Guild honored Tzetzi with the Lacoste President’s Award in 2004. After an incredible career that touched the lives and clothes of so many, Tzetzi retired from Western Costume in 2007. Her contributions as an artist and collaborator will live forever on screen.
