I forwent the Indian costume and only used one cheap teabag to not be exploitative, dehumanizing or wasteful. But the symbolism remains. The monarchy is an immoral and injudicious grift and should be abolished. Im adding a note to contextualize the use of the word “Indian”: the boston tea party rebels dressed up as Mohawk and Narragansett warriors, to hide their identities. But this was not an actual attempt to appear as specific indigenous people, rather it was a form of costume employed by the white settlers termed “Indian dress”. They covered their faces in soot and wore blankets, carried hatchets and shouted in gibberish. It was a way the white settlers had of making fun of the indigenous people. The so-called Indian dress was a form of blackface and it is presented in history books as a gallant form of rebellion against the oppressor. So To call this native american costume or indigenous dress seems inappropriate , particularly as it is so lauded in the books as a symbol of american freedom. I don’t know a better way to go about describing this part of the boston tea party but Id be happy to learn. #abolishthemonarchy #americanintheuk #scottishtiktok #gettheteaintheharbor #coronation #kingcharles #getinthesea #eattherich
