Let’s talk about layering curly hair. I approach the shape in a very visual manner. I like to study the hair before I begin the cut. It’s important to understand how it flows but also understand how it may lay once it’s cut shorter because you’ll remove the weight (length) leaving it lighter and naturally it will bounce more. It’s also important to keep it balanced. I’ve noticed some stylists will cut the top too short thinking it will add volume but sometimes it does the opposite. If you layer the crown too short, you can end up with a triangle shape on the head so the top will look too flat. I prefer to layer around the face to compliment the person wearing it. Cutting one curl at a time will prevent mistakes you can’t go back from. This process might take longer but if you get a haircut once every 6 months or a year, it’s so worth getting that extra attention to detail.
