@paola_lenti_official at Salone del Mobile. Paola Lenti pays tribute to a pioneer in furniture design, Clara Porset. Born in Cuba in 1895, Porset studied in New York, Paris and a formative summer at Black Mountain College in North Carolina forming a life-long connection with Anni and Josef Albers. Back in Cuba her career was interrupted when her support for and participation in the Cuban resistance movement led to political exile. Moving to Mexico City the architect
and designer was fascinated and inspired by Mexico’s craft traditions and particularly the butaque, a comfortable low lounge chair. A close collaborator of Luis Barragán, Mexico’s most acclaimed architect, Porset worked towards defining what a modern, post-colonial Mexico would look like.
Like Porset, Paola Lenti has combined history with contemporary thinking to create something modern. The Jardín series updates the materials of Porset’s lounges and sun bed without betraying their original spirit.
