I screw this up over and over again with my kids. I’m too frugal, or lazy, and just keep using diapers because they seem fine (they aren’t). I don’t know why I don’t just do this right - but maybe these “when to size up” tips will help you.

A few signs that it’s probably time to size up on babe’s diapers:
1. They’re peeing through at night or having frequent explosions. Is every poop coming out the back? Is their tummy soggy each morning when they wake up?
2. The tabs aren’t meeting the size markers on the front. Most diapers have a mark or line near the top edge - and the tabs should be able to meet the edge of and pull past those marks!
3. Red marks on their upper thighs. For sure, diapers are intended to fit relatively snugly - but they shouldn’t leave red marks on those little legs.
4. You’ve sized up in their clothing. This may not always be true - but if your little just made the jump from newborn to 3 months, or 12 months to 18 months? That diaper probably needs to be a size bigger too.
5. What’s the “rise” on the diaper? On the back, babe’s butt crack should not be dangerously close to the edge. On the front? Well fitting diapers often hit just below the belly button (not down above the pubis).
Seriously, we just went through this THIS week with my son - after ordering 150 more Size 3 diapers that he absolutely doesn’t fit in. Don’t be like me. Size up - and save yourself a ton of blow outs and laundry.

What’s your favorite diaper brand? I think that can have a lot to do with how well they fit too!
