Visit Burger King dressed as a clown (ahem, like the McDonald’s brand mascot) and you can claim a free Whopper. Part of Burger King’s ongoing series of witty ways to wind up McDonald’s, this one was particularly successful in driving footfall: 110,000 Whoppers were claimed. It shows how to make a seasonal campaign more than a standard giveaway and profit off the back of it: while diners are in-store, they’re also likely to purchase drinks, fries and other menu items.
