Real Talk: ⠀ Back in 2020 I was diagnosed with a generalized anxiety disorder. I’ve been able to manage my mental health with therapy and various forms of self care. Last winter my mental health started to decline due to several reasons. I went back to therapy and even though it took some time I found a therapist that was a good fit, but sadly that still wasn’t enough. ⠀ So today at my doctors appointment I let it all out and after my assessment we agreed that I needed to go on meds. Apparently I have a combination of anxiety and depression. 🥴 ⠀ This is the first time I’ve ever been on meds for my mental health and a part of me feels like a complete failure for needing them, but I know I can’t keep existing the way that I am. ⠀ I wanted to share this because if you are suffering mentally please know that you’re not alone and to please reach out for help. There is such a stigma when it comes to mental health especially in the Black community and we need to do better. Please take care of yourself. 💕 ⠀ If you or someone you know needs help, contact NAMI Helpline Mon. - Fri. from 10am -10pm ET ⠀ 1 800-950- NAMI (6264) or [email protected] ID: Black square with following caption written in white lettering.
