“Wade in the water, God’s gonna trouble the water.” The melody of the well known spiritual inspires the first movement of Florence Price’s Fourth Symphony, here seen in its first-ever Philharmonic performance last month at the @mcknightcenter, led by Music Director Jaap van Zweden. While it was originally composed in the 1930s, the symphony was never performed during Price’s lifetime, and was only discovered in 2009 in her former summer home in Illinois.
