Daniel Arsham used amethyst and hydrostone to produce this piece, “Amethyst Eroded American Flag”, 2016. The work commemorates a seminal moment in Arsham’s life, when Hurricane Andrew struck his home town of Miami. It relates to an awareness of temporality and architecture because it not only references the devastation, but also the subsequent rebuilding of the city. I included it as part of the summer exhibition at Surf Lodge.
