Cotton and Queen Anne’s Lace and the setting sun....
Rachel, in her brass Simple Tapered Bangle.
A common question I get is are the brass bangles suitable for daily wear? The answer is a resounding yes. Rachel has worn hers daily for the past two years ever since she purchased it. The brass alloy we use has a silicon additive which hinders the tarnish process. That’s not to say they can’t tarnish. Brass, bronze and silver tarnish because the metal reacts with compounds in the surroundings. This can be oxygen, sulfur compounds, carbon compounds or chlorides. All of these things are commonly found in water sources, and everyday environments. It’s one reason why we often suggest not wearing jewelry in water- that and because fishies love shiny things.
I love to say “let the metals do their thing”. I find a patina on a piece is sometimes what makes it the most interesting. That being said, there’s no arguing silver usually looks best when bright, and some people just prefer their metal to be shiny. But I’ve also designed many of the pieces with details so that when they tarnish and you go to polish them with a cloth (see comments) you’ll brighten the high areas, and leave the recessed areas darker creating a nice definition.
I’ve added a few tips continued in the comments below~ hopefully you find them helpful!
