Kosovo. Blink and you’ll miss it on the map, wedged into the Balkans like a secret someone tried to forget. Say the name and most people picture war footage from the ‘90s, grainy shots of burned-out buildings and men with tired eyes. But that’s not the whole story—not even close. I had the honor of performing at two historic bases in Kosovo, met some incredible soldiers, some of which escorted us via Black Hawk to one of our shows. Was honored to be presented a certificate on behalf of the bases for our performances, and got to explore the overall beauty of this young country. This place has scars, Deep ones. But it also has soul. That stubborn, unkillable kind that grows out of hardship and pride. You feel it in the smoky haze of a roadside grill, in the heavy clink of a coffee cup, in the way an old man looks at you like he’s seen more than you ever will—and he probably has. Once in a lifetime experience in a country that I am older than!!! (Gained Independence in 1999).
