My sister sent me the first photo — she’d just gone to Barnes & Noble to pick up the October issue of Wine Enthusiast Magazine…
To see my character front and center on the cover feels surreal. I’m still processing and taking it all in.
When a friend asked how I felt about this moment, I admitted I’ve been sitting with a lot of imposter syndrome. It’s a strange thing — to be recognized in this way while still feeling like I haven’t quite reached the people I’ve always looked up to. Another friend shared that many women who’ve received this same honor have felt the same way. I found myself asking: Will I ever not feel this way?
As I reflect on this year and the intentions I set for myself, there are a few words — shared by friends and family — that have stayed with me and will continue to guide me:
“The definition of humility is celebrating all your accomplishments while equally acknowledging all you’ve yet to learn and accomplish.”
- @hawk_wakawaka
“Success comes from a combination of hard work, prayer, and how you treat people.” - My mom @momma.osilla
“Don’t let the pressure of the award change anything about your approach or how you would tell your story” - @goodfriendsgoodfood
