I arrived in pieces.
On the plane I listened to recordings of Art Bell`s Coast to Coast AM. It was a show on Mothman, the Ohio river, man in black etc.
I tried to clear my head; it didn’t work.
“Don’t shit where you eat” in pencil on the wall behind a 2017 SAMSUNG flat screen.
This place is cheap.
There is a scene in every non-action-driven prison movie from the past thirty years, and in every account of hell, where, through desperation or boredom, human subjects transcend their assigned life-narrative. I always imagined these moments to be lit in a contrasted cool blue, like if the DP on Michael Mann`s Heat shot your life. In this space mysticism is an ally, superstition a guide. Flesh and cartilage from your body swirl around the room fusing with synthetic materials like fake wood and glass from the surroundings. Hotel rooms then become heavens, troubles become comedy, and inadequacy becomes drive.
In these moments the subject is god.
