Collaboration with @perelpix on a new piece created for @lababerin/ CLB gallery —created at @performance.space.new.york on a residency with @maboumines.
I’m very proud of this work.
Thank you @perel for continually challenging me to see the world differently and reminding me why we create in the first place. When collaborating with you, I’m a better human and I walk away feeling a sense of elated satisfaction; My soul is full.
ID: The hand of the angel Gabriel reaches out in a purple leather glove to place a shiny black object into the mouth of "Moses," staged as Perel. Perel's eyes are closed and anguished, while their tattooed hand grabs Gabriel's wrist in both desire and revulsion. The image of Perel is framed from the chest up, with their white skin showing, there is a vague imprint of a tattoo on their bare chest.
Featured as part of the group exhibition, “Broken” with seven other international Jewish artists in this program.
Crip Prophetics: “Burned and Broken” is a photographic series drawing from the “mamiming” stories of Moses and Jacob to transmute their bodies into vessels for the divine. As both a stutterer and a person with a mobility impairment, I turn a queer, disabled lens onto these mythologies to interrogate their symbolic significance (Image credit collaboration with Eric McNatt.)
----"examining prophetic and dissporic time through the lens of crip-time to interrogate the myths of cohesion, belonging, bodily autonomy, and narrative singularity that continue to oppress marginalized people. This will be an atmospheric meditation where I will be inviting the sacred into stories of historic and personal violence, the fucked and fucked up vestiges of patriarchy, misogyny, ableism, and anti-semitism. “
**Perel is an interdisciplinary artist whose work is centered on disability and queerness as they relate to care, consent, sexuality, and personal and historic trauma. Utilizing choreography to examine power exchange between the artist and audience, “Perel is a master at timing, of tension, relief, and intimacy while creating a space of learning and unlearning.”
