In my latest for @cbc, I was asked to contribute a piece on the idea of “Place” for the second release of the Black On The Prairies series. Growing up Black in the so-called “Texas of Canada” can be disorienting. But discovering the great and deep Black ancestry on these lands reminded me that my own parents’ (and the larger African and Black diaspora) journey to this place was rich in history and fate. We are always welcome here because the Black families who migrated here before us welcome us. This one is really special and close to my heart. We even got to include some of my fave family photos.
